Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures
Problems
1. Gabriel has 4 beakers of 5 atm of nitrogen, 2 atm of oxygen, 3 atm of carbon dioxide, and 1 atm of helium. If he combined the 4 flasks into one, what would be the total pressure of the flask.
2. Each 400 mL bottle of butterbeer contains an unknown quantity of a special gas called "Giggity gas" that is collected over the drink and has been shown to make the drinker inexplicably happy. If the pressure in a bottle of butterbeer is 867 torr and the partial pressure of butterbeer is 69 torr, how much Giggity gas is in each bottle?
3. Andrew has a closed flask of 70% Nitrogen and 30% Oxygen. The total pressure of the flask was determined to be 5 atm. What is the partial pressure of oxygen in the flask?
4. Brian collected 400mL carbon dioxide over water at 30 degrees Celsius and 749 mmHg. The partial pressure of water at 30 degrees Celsius is 31.8mmHg. What is the mass of the carbon dioxide?
